About Us

Canine Health Care Corner is owned and operated by Lorie Huston, a veterinarian, pet health and pet care expert and experienced writer/author.

Working as a veterinarian for the past 20+ years, Lorie has developed a strong desire to help dog owners keep their dogs healthy by educating them on the various health care strategies which can protect dogs against infectious diseases, parasites, and other dangers.

Attending the University of Nebraska, Lorie received a Bachelor of Science degree and then went on to attend the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1986.

Actively practicing veterinary medicine requires a commitment to continuing education and this is a commitment Lorie takes very seriously. With the rapid advances made in veterinary medicine over the past 10 years, it is important to stay up to date. To that effect, Lorie is a member of the Veterinary Information Network, a veterinarians-only community which provides clinical information, continuing education, collegial support and a number of ancillary services.

Lorie is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Rhode Island Veterinary Medical Association, and does a large amount of work for the Volunteer Services for Animals, a non-profit local group dedicated to helping dog owners and their dogs.

Lorie has been writing online since 2001, and has published numerous articles to various E-zines and newsletters, as well as providing news material to PRWeb. Currently, she is also writing for Ehow.com and Suite101.com. She also owns and operates the Feline Health Care Corner and the Pet Health Care Gazette.

When at home, Lorie enjoys gardening, reading, and spending time with her five cats: Lilly, Midge, Rusty, Dillon and Rhette. Pictures of all five cats can be found on the Pictures page of the Feline Health Care Corner.

Currently, Lorie lives in Warwick, Rhode Island. Though she grew up in the Mid-West (Omaha, Nebraska to be exact), she has resided in Rhode Island since 1988.
